cause lies in the field of conducting Research and imparting Training
and advice to reduce pressure on natural forests in order to help our
Earth retain its green cover. IPIRTI is an autonomous body under the
Ministry of Environment & Forest Govt. of India. Ministry of
Environment & Forest Govt. of India with the Minister in charge of the
portfolio of Environment & Forests as its President and the Secretary
of the Ministry as its Chairman. The Institute, which was started
as a co-operative Research Association of the Plywood Industry and
the CSIR in 1962,has evolved into a dynamic and creative organization
dedicated in developing new environment friendly technologies for wood
based industry.

It is internationally recognized center of expertise with an exhaustive source of data and information in the area of wood science and technology with particular reference to wood based panels. With nearly four decades of experience and expertise, the Institute eagerly looks forward to working on funded projects and expanding its list of members in the interest of involving a global fraternity of individuals, organizations and industries operating in the wood industries with interests of the environment at their heart.
The objectives of the Institute include:
To undertake research to enlarge service life of wood and wood products, optimize wood volume in end use and reduce wastage in conversion as well as in application; the focus of research efforts is on reduction of pressure on natural forests.
To advice on standardization of wood and wood products.
To impart training to improve skills, upgrade product quality and optimize production cost.
To advice industry and govt. agency’s on policy issues relating to development of mechanical wood industry
